How old does a car or SUV need to be before you no longer need to have annual inspections done?

always need to have it inspected, once it's 25 years old; you can change the registration to 'Fornbíll' or antique car. An antique car has to be inspected once every 2 years.

For the first 8 years you dont need yearly inspections, so for instance, a car first registered in 2010 will have a 14 sticker, then he will get a 16 sticker, and then an 18 sticker, and yearly after that

A car first registered tomorrow will get a 19 sticker


The rule is that for the first 8 years a car will not need yearly inspections, this is called 4+2+2+1 First it gets 4 years, then 2 years twice, and then yearly after that

So a car registered tomorrow will get a 19 sticker, then a 21 sticker and then a 23 sticker, and yearly after that




Taxis, buses and transport trucks are always subject to yearly inspections regardless of their first registration date
