Dual fuel tank

Postfrá Pondus » 25.okt 2012, 21:16

How do you mount the system around a dual fuel tank?
The mounting of the tank itself, is not a problem. I am thinking more about the plumbing.
The best would be a system where I have one point that will fill booth tanks and it takes fuel from booth, or a auto-system for switching. Or is it better with a manual switch like this? http://products.pollakaftermarket.com/v ... en-valve?#

I have a -94 Hilux with diesel engine. No pump in tank.

Nice if someone have pictures also :)

And google translate :D

I think it would be best to use the fuel door that you have and use ( Y ) fittings that goes to both tanks, many cars have used an electric pump, to pump from the spare tank to the main tank, some have used valve where you can switch betwen tanks. both ways work well.

Popular pumps to use to pump fuel out of the extra tank into the main tank are thouse out of 6,5 l diesel gm vehicles. They can suck up the fuel without a problem even though they are aligned with the top of the tank and not soaked in fuel, many pumps have to be arround the bottom level to achieve that........ I have used these pumps with great result. Another popular variety are those out of subaru 1800, but I have no experience regarding them....

Hehe, funny with google translate :D Then it is just as bad to translate to Icelandic as from :D

Use a y-fitting on the filling, and a switch or pumpe. Then I drop the automatic system :) Maybe smart to KISS :)
Which system do you think is best? Switch between tanks or pump over to main tank?

I personally prefer pumping from the spare tank to the main one. Otherwise you get questions like how to handle the return line etc.
Besides if you have the spare tank pumping into the fill hose of the main tank then you are not manipulating in any way with the original fuel system.

I have used a pump from an old Subaru station. It's very "handy". Sits on a plate under the car and so its easy to install. By accident I ran mine dry for a hour without problems.
I agree with the others, let it pump from the spare tank into the main tank. Although the switching between tanks system worked fine in the old Bronco, the pump system is much easier to install and requires less tampering with the original fuel system.
