I don't know about the 44" mine is on 38". Some have used them with minor or no problems on 44", others have had to replace the wheel bearings every year or more often.
The biggest problem if you are going to use the rear axle from the LJ70 is the offset differential, which you could solve by using the lj70 transfercase and possibly the gearbox, and you would have to relocate the fueltank.
The LJ70 front axle is about 6cm narrower than the IFS hilux rear axle, I used 1,5" aluminium spacers I bought on Ebay (1 1/4" were not available), it worked out fine for me.
You will have quite worse brakes on the lj70 front axle then you have on the IFS system, I solved this by getting HJ60 front discs and using the IFS brake caliper and pads, you will need to cut a little bit out of the shield around the disk, but other than that it's plug and play
